Montgomery Astilbe - The Astilbe Montgomery, 'Astilbe japonica', a spring planted tuberous root, produces wonderfully deep red flowers with dark bronze foliage that changes to green in the spring. The contrast of the flowers and the glossy foliage is striking. The Montgomery prefers a shady area, but they will tolerate some morning sun. Astilbe can be used for cut flowers, borders, and shade gardens. These plants will also attract hummingbirds.
